THE LOVE NEST

i have made a stop motion animation showing how my parasite is used. go ahead and watch two people sit inside the nest, and see how sparks fly!

a stop motion animation will be made to show how my parasite works and how people use it. i want to focus on the idea of a nest being a safe, protective place where people can be themselves and be vulnerable. it is a nest that encourages love and friendship. it is a love nest.

a parasite will be designed and attached to the existing site (seen below).

in this area of the site, people walk through the space, often not stopping at all. i want to create a safe, protective, relaxing attachment that allows people to slow down, appreciate the space and feel calm. i want to create a nest; a nest that fits two people and they are able to sit on the edge of it, be protected from wind and rain, and can talk and watch the world go by.

this piece was made from layering photos, hand drawings and photoshopped colours and textures. it describes the natural conditions of the site, such as light, textures, people movement, colour and wind. this way of drawing can help people understand the environment and atmosphere without physically being there.

these creatures stand together, limbs combined. even though they are opposites, one with an attacking nature and the other defensive, they are entwined. the black creature has an outward energy. nails drip out of each section of the creature and it has an attacking nature. coiled wire guards the cotton wool. having a background of large trees blowing in the wind gives this piece a feeling of being out in the open air. each creature has to defend itself against natural elements. although opposites, both creatures have an aspect of protection. each is protecting itself.these creatures are strong.these creatures are loyal.these creatures are opposites.these creatures are wild.

we made it through semester 1 - it was challenging, new, eye-opening, time consuming, hard work, like nothing i’ve ever done before. i’m more energetic, more emotional, grumpier, happier, more on-edge.
and i wouldn’t change one thing.
bring on the next 3.5 years !

this is an elevation (and a small plan in the top right corner) of our ‘improbable machine’ we created at a laaaarge scale on the wall. the machine is made up of all found objects, such as old barbies, books, a slinky, string, a ball, marbles, tins and other miscellaneous things ! ours almost worked ..

aPATTYPANshelter

The Australian sun is hot and sharp.

Our shelter aimed to protect our bodies from the sun, while also allowing each of us to move our arms and upper bodies freely. The roof is made from threaded patty pans, hiding us from the harsh sun, yet still creating shawdows and letting some light through. The walls are twisted and strong, attached to our bodies with arm straps like a backpack. Our bodies are connected yet we are three separate entities.

While creating each of the three collages, I wanted to communicate the main ideas in our shelter; body movement, light and the interior and exterior. By layering different pictures and papers I was able to create some sort of a hierachy and focal point. All three collages show the sunlight pouring down on us. I represented the picnic rug with different kinds of paper but always cutting it in a diamond-like shape to create a sense of unity between each picture. Having our bodies in black and white makes them stand out more than they would if they were in colour, as they might have disappeared slightly into the background.

We wanted to conceal ourselves from the sunlight (the roof), but also reveal ourselves to the exterior (the ropes). We became a part of the environement; connected yet hidden.
